   "We're losing too many," he said. 
   The table legs caught fire.

   "Where's the king?" Sartunok's voice thundered above the noise of the battle and the flames.

    "By the doors!" Someone shouted from the stage.

    Rakan pushed her against the wall as Sartunok moved between the fighting men and in front of them, so close his cape clipped her ankle.  She stared up at his face, scarcely breathing.  He looked down at her only the breath of a second, staring deep into her eyes as he passed.  She felt her knees giving way but Rakan's tightening grip on her arm helped her to stand.
